MONKEY PUZZLE TREE

                                                                              (araucaria araucana)

Known as araucaria araucana, a South American Tree Species. 

This evergreen tree can grow up to 40m tall with a 2m diameter trunk and only starts to produce cones suitable for germination from the age of 20 onwards.

Due to each longevity and primitive look, it is also called a living fossil. its leaves are thick, tough and scale-like, triangular, 3-4cm long, 1-3cm broad at the base, and with sharp edges at the tip.

This is dioecious plant, the male and female cones develop on separate trees, but sometimes, monoecious specimens can be found so it can be pruned and it is even possible to grow it into a bonsai tree.

*These seedlings have been grown from last year in our greenhouse by ourselves.

*Approximately 10-14cm in height
