Cabbage Palm is is best and most hardy palm you can grow in the UK.
It is native to New Zealand where it is very long lived and can grow to great heights.
It produces large panicles of cream flowers followed by berries. Technically it is not a palm but a member of the agave family.
It grows very well in the UK especially in coastal loations. It can be cut down by very cold weather but will usually re-grow from the base in a more attractive multi-stemmed form.
The common name of cabbage palm related to the edible stems which apparently taste of cabbage.
GERMINATION - Germination is affected by such factors as temperature, moisture content, light intensity and contamination of planting media. Although we do everything possible to get seeds to you in the best possible condition these factors are totally outside of our control and once you receive the seeds its over to you. Consequently, we can take no responsibility for the suitability to your local conditions of any variety offered, the indicative cultivation advice provided or ultimately the varieties performance. As such you should seek local advice to carefully ensure your local conditions and the time of season are appropriate to the variety purchased. Many plants will germinate better with the help of Ga3 which is widely available on Ebay and elsewhere.
